The cars are late model Checker Marathons. Late model being 1980, 1981, and 1982, manufactured in Kalamazoo, Mich. by Checker Motor Corp. specifically for use as taxis. This is the car that DeNiro drove in the movie "Taxi Driver". (are you talking to me?).
Checker Motor Corp. stopped producing this car in 1982 after 26 years of the same body style.
The later models had GM drive trains so parts for maintenance are readily available. These cars and the parts cars that support them have been collected from cities all over the country including St. Louis, Dallas, Knoxville, Long Island, Rancho Palo's Verde's, Phoenix, Boca Raton, Panama City, and Prescott and have been driven back to our base in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

I picked up four married, 40ish or so, women from Atlanta one night. I asked what brought them. They said it was ladies weekend out. One continued and said, "We are so happy to be here without our husbands and children". The others agreed, and then the first continued, "We figured we have given 3.7 bl_ w jo_s each to our husbands to get here this weekend".
One night I had a group that wanted to know which club to go to. They were looking for a party.
I remembered the review my mother had given me after going to one of the new, local
restaurant / bars. She told me she would never go there again. When I asked her why, she said,
"I won't go there again because everyone was drunk and it was real loud".
My group said that was good enough, take us there.
I had the good fortune to carry a visiting Catholic Priest. the other day. We struck up a conversation about all the ordinary stuff, where he was from , what he was doing here, how long he was staying, and of course the cool car I was driving.
He then said I was blessed. He said my job as a taxi driver would surely help me pass through the gates of Heaven with ease, maybe even faster then him.
I asked him what made him say that. I asked him to please explain. He said, "When I do my job, I inspire most of the people around me to pray, but I know no matter what I do, and as regrettable as it is, their will always be a few that will sleep". He continued, "after watching you do your job for these past few minutes, I am certain you inspire all those riding with you to pray, and I am pretty sure that none of your fares will ever sleep".
